Interview Tips

Interviewing makes candidates nervous, and we at itsQuest understand that.  When you go for an interview, you should be prepared. Being prepared will make you more confident. So we offer these following tips to help you succeed:

  1. Before you go to the interview, learn as much as you can about the company, its services, products, customers, and even its competition.  This knowledge will put you ahead of other candidates because you will understand the company's needs. The more you know about the company, the better chance you have of having a successful interview. You also should find out about its culture to see if it is a place where you will be happy working.
  1. Be Prepared.  Bring along extra copies of your resume and your references.  You also need a writing pad and pen to take notes.  Make a list of questions that you want to ask your interviewers, and have examples of your accomplishments to share with them. 
  1. Dress for the Job.  Select what you want to wear for the interview with the understanding that how you look is the first impression your interviewers will have.  Dress neatly and confidently, and make sure you are comfortable in your attire.  The outfit should fit well and make you feel good about yourself.  Never wear an outfit that may malfunction.  Look polished and sharp.
  1. Be Prompt.  Allow extra time to arrive 10 minutes early for the interview.  If this requires finding the location before the day of the interview, then do that.  You do not want to get lost and you do not want to get stuck in traffic.  Do whatever it takes to be prompt, because being late for an interview will most likely result in the interviewers thinking that you are not reliable or respectful.
  1. Turn Off Your Cell Phone.  This needs no explanation.
  1. Show Enthusiasm.  Look directly at each person you meet and make eye contact.  Give a firm handshake to your interviewers.  Those actions will show that you have confidence.
  2. Mind your Manners.  Your attitude and behavior toward others are as important as your resume and your experience. Your interviewers are not just looking for experienced people, they are looking for people with the human qualities that matter in business relationships such as courtesy, respect, trust and reliability.  Those qualities will help them make their business successful.
  3. Smile and be Positive.  A smile shows not only that you are confident, but that you are pleasant.  Being positive shows that you will be a good teammate.
  4. Body Language.  Sit up straight and plant your feet firmly on the floor during an interview.  A relaxed pose tells your interviewers that you are not interested or that you are not respectful of their time.   Don’t fidget.   Also, remain standing until your interviewers ask you to sit down; otherwise you will come across as being too familiar rather than a guest.
  5. Be honest.  Always be honest about everything.  Lies tend to be found out, and you will never overcome them.
  6. Listen and Answer the Questions Asked.   Pay attention to what your interviewers say and ask.  Make sure they can see that you are listening rather than trying to think of the answer while they are still talking.  If you don’t understand the questions, ask for clarification.
  7. Ask Your Questions.   Don’t forget to ask those questions you brought with you, and any others you noted during the interview.
  8. Thank Them.  Make sure you thank them at the beginning and the end of the interview.  That shows them that you understand their time is valuable.
  9. Follow Up.  The last chance you have to market yourself is with a follow up, and you should make sure you do that within 24 hours of the interview.  You can do this by email or by regular mail.  Thank them again for their time and consideration and, if you want the job, let them know you look forward to working with them.  Even if you have decided you do not want the job, you should follow up and thank them.  Never burn bridges.

Job Objective –A two-to-three sentence statement highlighting your search intentions and an opportunity for you to demonstrate what you would like in your career.

Work Experience – When listing your work experience, start with your most recent position and then list your previous positions chronologically. List the company, organization, dates employed and a bulleted list detailing your accomplishments and job duties for each company.

Education and Training – List your education and training including the most recent degrees or certificate first. Include the name of the institution, certificate type, city, and state. Including the year of completion is optional.

Activities, Organizations, and Community Experience – List only activities, organizations, or community experience relating to the position you are applying and work in your favor. Emphasize activities that support your job search.
