Staffing Agencies and Personality Testing

In the search for the perfect candidate, employment agencies utilize a variety of tools. One such tool we use at ITSQuest is a behavioral assessment in our interviewing process. Personality testing is one way for staffing agencies among other entities, to determine the best applicant for a given position. It is a psychologically proven and scientifically sound way to determine appropriate candidates. These tests can provide a wide range of information to help in the decision-making process. A few examples of this are to determine the degree people present various traits, behaviors, and dispositions including: Honesty, nonviolence, dependability, conscientiousness, responsibility, trustworthiness, motivation, etc. (Personality Testing in Employment, 2019).

At ITSQuest, we utilize what we call a behavioral interview in our hiring process. A behavioral interview differs from personality testing in several ways.

Psychological testing has strict parameters and various ways built in to the test to minimize cheating and confounding variables. Many of these tests have to be administered by professionals such as psychologists. In the context of a staffing agency, a behavioral interview is more appropriate. We meet face to face with our employment candidates to get a feel for their level of character, maturity, and experience when we are looking to place them in one of our open positions.

While behavioral interview and personality tests have similarities, they have many differences as well. Both are beneficial in the correct circumstance.
